WBBP World Map 10-24

The map above from sitemeter.com shows the locations of the last 100 visitors to the WBBP site. We now have visitors from 5 continents! The momentum is building!

FAQ:

How will bloggers post onto the WBBP from 10/26 - 11/17?

A calendar with sign-up times is being developed and will be released soon. Bloggers will register using a referral code which will allow them to select a date and time slot. This will be very useful during our 24 hr. blog party from 9pm Oct 26th to 9pm Oct 27th.

How will donations be made and tracked?

Donate links using Network for Good will be on the site for most of the charities. Due to the work of our sponsor, Spruz, feedback from Network for Good will allow us to total the donations on the WBBP site.

If you have any other questions, please send them to cbrinkley AT chartertn.net.

Getting closer to the Kick-Off on Oct 26th

Oct 24th, 2007 | Building Momentum | No Comments

Alot of things are going on to get ready for the Kick-Off on Oct 26th. Please keep watch on the WBBP site over the next couple of days as we will be releasing more information about how to sign-up for a Blog time slot and more details how the donation process will work. The donations will be processed via Network for Good (www.networkforgood.com). A “Big Thanks” to the team at Spruz (www.spruz.com) for their work on the donation process. Also, the Blog Party Event on Friday night will be streamed live via BlogTalkRadio (www.blogtalkradio.com/wbbp). Where ever you are in the world, you can go to the WBBP site at BlogTalkRadio and listen to things that are happening at the party. You will also be able to call in and we can talk to bloggers around the country/world.

GIfts That Help Another new sponsor is the Charitable Gift Giving Blog (www.charitablegiftgiving.com). The purpose of this blog is to find some of the best stuff you can buy on the Web where a portion of the proceeds are donated to a charity or other non-profit organization in need. Theyl surf major retailing sites, as well as mom-and-pop sites, to find the best out there. Whether you buy these products as gifts for others or for yourself, you can feel great about your purchase, knowing that you’re not just buying a gift, but helping a great cause too. Thanks for joining the World’s Biggest Blog Party.

Wbbp blogger Beth Terry has gotten started, blogging for her charity of choice, pacc911, an animal rescue super-power in Arizona! Her post serves as an example of how EASY it is to get started in this project! She picked something she cares about and her posts will reflect her excitement and concern that this fantastic organization is able to remain funded for it’s very important work. From Nepal (our guest blogger in Nepal)

Oct 20th, 2007 | Building Momentum | No Comments

Ghandruk Village, Nepal Arrived in Kathmandu yesterday. It’s the city that never sleeps…literally. Or at least they don’t seem to think that anyone else does! Pretty much any hour of the night you can hear horns honking, people talking, cat’s meowing, docile cows mooing and the dogs. Good Lord, the dogs. I’ve heard the “wild dogs of Thimpu” (in Bhutan) and they don’t hold a candle to these canines.

I guess I shouldn’t be too hard on the place; there is a window of about 3:45am till 4:10am where things seem to die down a bit. But hey, this the Kathmandu! The crossroads of the world. Where people come to find themselves, climb unattainable summits, and see a culture that just cannot be duplicated.

Without a doubt Nepal is a place to be treasured, savored, like the last sip of a great wine. It is a place that for all the changes going on in the world, manages to hold on to its magical charm.

We’re in Nepal hosting members of Airline Ambassadors to help start a community radio station, add new windows and doors for a long forgotten school deep in the Himalayas, visit some of the women that Lending Promise has given “micro-loans” so they can sustain their family, and work with the first female trekking school in Pokhara, run by the three sisters Lucky, Dikki and Nikki called…well…The Three Sisters Trekking School.

So over the next few weeks we are going to feast on a philanthropic smorgasborg as we course our way through some of the most amazing scenery in the world, sampling everything from Volunteering to Funding and a few Tibetan momo’s along the way. It should be a lot of fun.

This morning we are off to Pokhara, a beautiful lakeside town at the foot of majestic Manchapucharre. I will try to keep you updated as things progress. Until then we help in our own small way to keep the world on track by going Off-the-Rails.

Happy trails,
Dave

Note from Tim: I wrote about David on my Richest People Blog this week. He’ll will writing over the next two months about his travels in Nepal, Thailand, and Indonesia. It will be worth checking in just for this. We are HOPING to interview him “live’ next week during our blog party week to kick off Make a Difference day.

Entertainment and worldwide streaming

Oct 19th, 2007 | Building Momentum | No Comments

Last night the planning team for the WBBP had a conference call with BLOGTalkRadio who will be streaming our event live all over the world at selected times on October 26th and 27th. Look for posts from Tia and Charles who are even more excited than I am am!

Also, Nashville entertainer, Tim Bays a speaker, humorist and musical presenter will perform along with the Alexia Dance Troupe. It’s going to be an awesome night!

Here is more info about Tim.

Tim Bays uses songs and stories to entertain and elevate his audiences. He has worked with companies from IBM to At Home Total Care and shared concert bills with artists ranging from Sarah Vaughn to Arlo Guthrie. He is a successful songwriter with recordings by Randy Travis, Peter Paul & Mary and much to his family’s embarrassment, Jerry Springer. In addition he has created ads and motivational themes for such companies as GE, Duke Power and Sara Lee, as well as being a recognizable voice in commercials for companies like Coca Cola, Goodyear and McDonalds. He has appeared on TNN, PBS, CBS, been a public school teacher and (thankfully since he is a public presenter) is an experienced psychiatric aide. (see I told you he was funny)

Get dialed in…

Oct 17th, 2007 | Building Momentum | No Comments

Team WBBP is scheduling two short conference calls next week. The main purpose of the calls will be to give an overview of how the 24 hour blog kickoff will work and to introduce the exciting technology we’ll be using to have donations go right to the charities we are blogging about. IF enough people are interested, we’ll also provide a short course in how to blog and have blogging experts share how to use blogging to spread your message - whatever it is. If you can spare about 17 to 27 minutes, PLEASE send a RSVP email to Media at TimRichardson.com confirming you’d like to participate. We’ll explain everything in the call and hopeful get a FAQ on the blog as well.

If you are already involved or want to be, here are other things you can do:

  • Send your blog address to Cbrinkley AT chartnertn DOT net” to be added to the blog roll
  • Send the web address of your charity to info AT theworldsbiggestblogparty DOT com so they can be added (we are cutting off any new charities on October 22nd.)
  • Post on your Blog or Facebook or My Space account an entry about our event. We are offering prizes for the person who signs up the most number of bloggers
  • Forward to your friends with a personal note telling them to get involved.
  • List any questions you’d like answered here

The call previously scheduled for tonight will still occur with a focus on the planning of our October 26th kickoff. I DO need to know if you are calling in. Please send an email to Tim At TimRichardson.com and call in number 517-417-5000 access code: 46326 at 8:00 EST.
Visit our new sponsor Spruz to get a blog, web site, or other cool tools!

If you start me up

Oct 15th, 2007 | FAQ, Building Momentum | No Comments

People have been saying, “I love the idea, now how do I get started?” Well, if we start you up (blogging that is), you’ll never stop. But hey we want you to start so here’s the deal to do to get started:1) Email your blog address and your preferred category listing (see blog for categories) to Charles at cbrinkley@chartertn.net. If you have a new charity that you’d like added to our list, please send that so a link can be added. 2) Add the logo on your blog (there’s a button on the WBBP blog and it’s easy to do)3) Pick a day to write about a charity or organization that you care about at least one time between Oct 27th and Nov. 17th. The WBBP team tells me there will be a calendar but for now just advise us on your blog topic.

NOTE: There will be a live 24 hours blog-a-thon starting at 9:00 pm at the Capitol Theatre in downtown Maryville if you are local. You’ll also be able to sign up for a virtual time slot to blog from where ever you are located. Bloggers will be posting throughout the night. There will be a sign up for that as well on the blog this week.

If you want to go the extra mile, put a post on your blog like former friend Rick Laney. Rick is a talented writer, marketing and PR guy and until recently a pretty funny guy. I used to think he should start a humor business blog. But after the post he wrote about me, he’s crossed the line. Go ahead funny guy, make me look like an idiot. I’ll probably dance with the belly dancers at the kickoff party on October 26th too. Somehow I bet I will pay for that…at least we’ll be raising money for charity.

Make a Difference Day contest

Oct 14th, 2007 | Uncategorized | No Comments

We’re having a contest to get more bloggers involved. One of the participants suggested a prize of music lessons from Jana Stanfield…I’ll inquire. I’m also going to check with David Wilcox to see if we can get a music donation or perhaps lessons. I took some from him years ago before he “made it” in the folk world. We’ll confirm the prizes and contest rules soon. BTW, Make a Difference Day is having a contest too.

Time Keeps on Slipping into the Future

Oct 12th, 2007 | Building Momentum | No Comments

I took a very cool picture tonight of our courthouse clock on the way home from the Foothills Fall Festival. The clock reminded me that there are two more weeks until Make a Difference Day which also kicks off the World’s Biggest Blog Party. Here are some updates:

- Next Thursday October 18th at 8:00 pm EST time, there will be a conference call to provide some education and information about the project. The call will include an interview with a blogging expert and some great info on the project. Here is the call in number 517-417-5000 then enter access code 46326.

- We’re adding sponsors now espeakers.com and others will appear on the sponsor list by early next week.

- There is a press release on the blog which you can use as template to send out to the media in your area. The idea is you’ll get some exposure from the organization you are blogging about.

- Friday night October 26th, there will be a “live” event at the Capitol Coffee shop in downtown Maryville. The entertainment will include live music, comedy, and even belly dancing! One of the belly dancers will is a breast cancer survivor and hopefully we’ll get her to tell her story. Of course, bloggers blogging about causes they care about including breast cancer, melanoma, and more. Mark your calendar to join us if you’re local. If you are not, we hope to have a continuous blog going for 24 or more hours.
